| TANG SOO DO Kids All of our youth here at the Academy are schooled in the art of Tang Soo Do. Tang Soo Do means "the way of the worthy hand", "the art of the knife hand" or "the way of the Chinese hand." It's roots can be traced back several thousand years, however, Tang Soo Do as it is known and practiced today was born out of Seoul, South Korea in 1945. Kicks are heavily emphasized in TSD. This is a strong system in which to have youth begin their respective training in order to lay the foundation of basics they will need for more advanced training as they progress here at the academy. GO JU RYU Teens and Adults Go Ju Ryu means, literally, "hard/soft" style. There is a good balance of both soft style and hard style techniques woven into the system. We utilize many different self defense techniques and kata from 10th Degree Black Belt, Grand Master Sam Price's Go Ju Ryu system combined with many training techniques learned by Marc Unger over his years of training in different systems. The kata utilized in Go Ju Ryu are all of the advanced nature and quite suitable for the teen/adult student population. Kata/Self Defense/Fighting are the cornerstones of this system. Our style promotes enthusiastic, positive attitude, physical conditioning, basic fundamentals of Karate, performance of multiple Katas and controlled sparring using authorized protective padding for safety's sake. Our aim is to provide each student with a well rounded training regimen. History: In 1960, Grand Master Sam Price began his Karate training in Kansas. He trained in Shotokan, Sor Yu Kan, American Karate, Isshin Ryu, Tae Kwon Do and finally, Go Ju Ryu. Over the years, Grand Master Price, 10th Degree, became recognized as a Soke (Founder) as he melded the systems he previously studied with many Katas (floor routines) and self-defense routines of his own into Sam Price's Go Ju Ryu System. www.pricekarate.blogspot.com | |
