When we first brought our nearly five year old son, PJ, to check out Master Unger’s karate school he was reluctant to do more than stand at the door and watch the class.  And yet each time we came, Master Unger enthusiastically welcomed PJ with a “Tang Soo Big Guy!” and calmly advised us to “Just keep bringing him.  Let him watch and when he’s ready he’ll join us.”

About a month ago we watched with pride as PJ—now age six— received his yellow belt.  He had earned it by successfully completing the challenging and demanding two hour test of his skills and learning.  His sense of accomplishment was evident as he glanced at us with great satisfaction.  Training with Master Unger has transformed our reluctant observer into a willing participant and increasingly confident learner.   This transformation is a tribute to Master Unger’s exceptional ability to work with young people.  We could not be more pleased that PJ has had the benefit of training with Master Unger at the Rising Sun Karate Academy.

As parents, we like that Mr. Unger asks the children to perform tasks in multiple steps increasing their ability to do the same in school.  The respect(both given and received), discipline and focus are all attributes we hope to help our children achieve as parents, and Mr. Unger helps facilitate those with every encounter with our children.  Our children have tried different sports and activities, but continue to favor karate.  Mr. Unger inspires us all to behave with respect, discipline and self-control all the time.

From Mom:I have seen tremendous improvement in several areas of my boys' development since they began their Tang Soo Do karate training with Mr. Unger.  My oldest son has seen remarkable growth in his coordination, athleticism, and self-confidence.  My younger son has learned when and where physical defensive actions are appropriate and that the discipline of practice helps him to attain his goals. From Alex and Josh:Mr. Unger is an awesome teacher!  The RSKA program is the perfect combination of physical fitness and martial arts.  Mr. Unger teaches us how to do proper Tang Soo Do karate technique as well as self-defense.  Our class includes a great physical workout, karate forms practice, weapons training, and sparring.  We work hard and have fun!

There are a lot of choices and variation in karate studios. Our son studies
at The Rising Sun Karate Academy because of Sensei Marc Unger. He is an
exceptional instructor. Marc knows how to challenge and bring out the best
in the students. They know he is invested in their success. Just as
important as his focus on technical performance are Marc's high standards
for behavior and discipline. His role modeling and mentorship have been
excellent for my son. Marc's breadth across disciplines adds color to

Mr Unger has been teaching our boys for 2 1/2 years now and we see such a change in their self esteem and athletic ability. Brian and Matthew love going to class and are always eager to share new moves.
